From Monday through Thursday, our school day begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at either 3:20 p.m. or 3:45 p.m. depending on the day. On Friday our school day ends at 12:10 p.m. Class periods are 100 minutes each in the morning and 75 minutes in the afternoon. Passing periods are five minutes and lunch is 40 minutes long. A vegetarian lunch is served in our cafeteria for $5.00 per meal Monday to Thursday. During the week on Mondays and Wednesdays we have a 25 minute chapel while on Tuesdays and Thursdays there is a homeroom where teachers interact with students in an informal worship-type atmosphere. On Friday from 8:00 to 8:50 a.m., we have an assembly period for activities such as guest speakers, special performances, and school spirit activities.
Athletic practices and games are scheduled after school as well as science labs. On the weekends our student body, ASHMA which stands for Associated Students of Hawaiian Mission Academy, has vespers and socials.
Other exciting and fun activities our students look forward to during the school year are as follows:
1. Senior Trip - This trip involves the senior class going to California for 10 days to visit Pacific Union College in Napa County, La Sierra University in Riverside, California, and Loma Linda University Medical School in San Bernardino County. Along with visiting these fine universities, the seniors also visit Disneyland, Sea World, and other places during their trip.
2. Camp Erdman - This is a YMCA camp out on the North Shore near Mokuleia. It is a place where students camp out by the fire, play sports, play games and enjoy a time out in the country. It is a time for fun and spiritual growth.
3. Biology Marine Expedition - Each year the Biology class takes a three-day two-night trip for laboratory experience. In years past trips have been taken to the Big Island and Maui. Students go tide pooling, snorkeling, and visit marine research stations.
4. ESL/IS Field Trip - Every other year the International students will have the chance to visit a neighbor island during the spring semester for a time of fun in the sun and sightseeing. On the year that they don't travel to the neighbor island, students will take a tour of Oahu.
Besides the above activities, Hawaiian Mission Academy sets aside a fall week of prayer, student week of prayer (the week of Camp Erdman), and a spring week of prayer for spiritual reflection. A special chapel is held every day of the week to listen to the Word of God, to sing, and to pray for the school, the students, parents, and the community.
Hawaiian Mission Academy fills each day with activities that will help each student grow spiritually, physically, socially, and academically.
The Blue and White
To H.M.A. our
Academy, we will dedicate our all. As we train for
service in the world, we will answer to the call; Loyalty and purity
our pledge in our colors blue and white! From our shores and
o'er the waves we shine our beacon light!
Chorus: H.M.A., the school
that stands for right. We'll win the game
of life by honest strife true to our blue and white! We strive for honor
be it home or field afar, With our aim before
us like a glorious star; You have taught us
courage we will never mar Our Alma Mater -
